INTRODUCTION TO BIM
In order to understand what the
program Building Information Modelling does, there needs to be an understanding
on what it is. The Building Information Modelling program, also known as BIM,
is changing how buildings, infrastructure, and utilities are planned, designed,
built and managed. BIM is a process that involves creating and using an
intelligent 3D model to inform and communicate project decisions. This program
makes it easier to achieve project and business goals.
In
essence, BIM as a project delivery method contains two elements. The first part
is a 3-D modeling desktop computer application ruled by an information database
used to detect conflicts of operating parameters and ensure construction
clearances. The second component involves a collaboration process in which the
architect, engineer, and contractors on the project cooperate from the design
phase to the end of construction. This is done in an effort to improve
productivity, reduce costs, and facilitate the project. For that reason, BIM is
a team sport.
